British Values permeate our Social, Moral and Cultural curriculum
Social communication is a key area of learning and we ensure that pupils are given a voice to communicate. We empower our pupils by giving them opportunities to make choices about the things that they believe to be important and which affect them.
An advocate from Barnardo's supports the pupils in our Residential Department.
Rule of Law
Pupils are helped to learn and manage their behaviour, taking responsibility for their actions. Pupils learn about personal safety, choices and consequences and the law, for example with regard to E- Safety, drugs education, sex and relationship education and understanding services that help us.
We are a UNICEF Rights respecting school and highlight that everyone has rights and responsibilities. Pupils are encouraged to become active citizens; we do this by supporting each pupil to become as independent as possible. We encourage pupils to have and realise high aspirations for their future and support others by participating in charitable events such as, Red Nose Day, Comic Relief and Children in Need.
We promote respect for each pupil as a unique individual, whose qualities and differences will be valued. Within school, pupils work with a range of people to have positive interactions. The curriculum is personalised and planned for pupils to meet their needs. We work closely with parents, carers and other professionals to ensure that the pupils are happy, well cared for and enabled to learn the skills they need to live a fulfilling life as part of their community.
Pupil Premium is deployed effectively and monitored to reduce disadvantage gaps.
Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
We are part of a school and local community where each person is respected and valued equally without regard to ability, gender, faith, heritage or race. Cultural appreciation and development forms part of our curriculum. We place great emphasis on providing encounters and participation in events and celebrations to broaden all pupils’ experiences and awareness of others, via cultural assemblies and celebrations, visitors to the school, exploration of religious and cultural topics and community visits.
